Q&A with The Vampire Diaries star, Candice Accola

E-mail Print PDF
Thanks to a broody blend of Twilight meets Dawson’s Creek, The CW has a monster hit on its hands with freshman series The Vampire Diaries. We were lucky enough to chat with 22-year-old star Candice Accola about her character, blonde bombshell Caroline Forbes, and whether she’d like to join the fang gang anytime soon.

Congrats on the show being a huge hit! Were you ever nervous about the ratings or the reviews when the show premiered?
I'd say more excited than nervous. I didn't have any idea how big the show would be or become, but I had a hell of a lot of hope! We all put a lot of work and heart into the pilot so it was exciting to see it premiere. I could not be more grateful for the outcome!

What are the most and least fun parts of working on the show?
The best part of working on this show is the cast and crew. I wake up pumped to go to work. There is a lot of laughing that goes on between takes. The only hard part about working on a vampire show is the really late nights.

Do you share any character traits with Caroline?
Like Caroline, I sometimes forget to think before I speak. There are a lot of ‘foot in mouth’ moments that occur daily in my life.

Do you secretly wish that Caroline rather than Vicki had been turned by Damon?
I would love to get my own pair of fangs! But Kayla Ewell [who played Vicki] kicked ass as the first female to turn on this show. She is officially the hottest female vampire ever and totally rocked the fangs!

Is it tough to keep any spoilers falling into the wrong hands?
Nope. We kind of live in our own working bubble here in Atlanta so there isn't much of a chance to give away spoilers. We're also kept in the dark until the scripts are perfected. So we don't know too far in advance what's going to happen. It keeps everything very exciting.

On set with co-star Paul Wesley

What do you like to do in your free time?
I love spending way too much time at Barnes & Noble. I just read City of Thieves by David Benioff and passed The Road by Cormac McCarthy off to Paul [Wesley]. I'm also about to finish Love Me by Garrison Keillor so I'm due for another shopping spree.

Are you a fan of any other vamp-related shows or movies? What are some of your favorite TV shows in general?
I'm a fan of True Blood and the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie. Right now I'm watching Modern Family, Dexter and Top Chef. I also can't wait for Season Two of Party Down. Best show ever...besides The Vampire Diaries, of course!
