How did you score the part of Finn – was it a tough audition process?
They wanted everyone to act AND sing for the initial auditions. I've been a drummer all my life, and since I didn't consider myself a singer... I sent a video of me 'playing drums' on Tupperware and wine glasses from my agency kitchen. It was a bit different than the rest of the tapes, I imagine! Ryan Murphy ended up writing it into the character.
Did you have to take any singing or dancing lessons to prep for shooting or did you already have the vocal chops?
I had an untrained, natural ability... but I'm still working hard at learning how to sing. You can always work harder; and be better.

Do you feel more comfortable singing karaoke in bars now?
Absolutely! I tore down some Lionel Richie in Victoria, Canada just a few nights ago. I can finally have fun singing, for the first time in my life! Before I was way too nervous.
For such a new show, you already have a huge fanbase. Have you had a lot of “Gleek” fan encounters so far?
We just came back from a 10 city promotional tour... which was basically one big Gleek encounter! Everyone was super super excited, and we were so happy to see people into the show so early on.
How would you pitch the show to someone who hasn’t seen it yet?
A post-modern version of Fame, with hit singles for the music, but it feels quirkier, darker - like Election meets Freaks and Geeks.
What’s your stance on the Quinn/Finn/Rachel love triangle?
I'm just happy to be in the middle of it! It gives us alot to work with as actors, that's for sure. As the season goes along, it only gets more complicated.

What was your high school experience like? Were you a sports guy or a drama geek?
None of the above. I was kind of a lonewolf... I think I hung out with all those different groups, just on the periphery..
What TV shows are you into right now?
Dexter! Is so good. Who woulda thunk he'd have a baby?! And always catching up on Californication.
