A quartet born from the combination of two bands, Dualistics are an indie/alt-rock group reminiscent of a darker Dave Matthews Band or perhaps a softer Ben Folds Five. They cite a diverse set of influences including 12 Rods, Self, King's X, Wilco, The Pixies, Mars Volta and Ben Folds Five and describe their sound as "groove oriented pop/rock with an indie/90s alternative edge". Scroll down to read our interview with the band then get a copy of their new Long Tail EP, check out their upcoming gig at The Viper Room and judge for yourself! Jimmy, who played bass for The Fray not too long ago, explains that the term Dualistic means consisting of two parts or elements: "In the beginning, the band was only Scott and myself (Jimmy), writing and recording as a duo. We thought Dualistics best represented how the band was working." he says, "And the name brought new meaning when Tyler and Charley joined the group, as Dualistics then became a joining of two bands." The band takes their name seriously, and those who don’t…meet their wrath: "We were in Boston and a local radio DJ named 'Big Hubbaloo' announced us before we took the stage. He called us "Foolistics" and we killed him. Who's the fool now?" Despite the mixture of different sounds, the guys say they relate directly with each of their tunes: "We didn't really have a preconceived notion or theme in mind for our latest songs." says Jimmy, "We write based on what's happening in our lives at that moment. We are all emotionally connected to the songs because we can all relate to them." ![]() Comments
