Born in 1971 in Montreal, Gilsig has been acting since the age of 12. After attending McGill University in her hometown, she moved to Boston and enrolled in the “very intense” American Repertory Theater at Harvard.

“It was exciting to finally be in school with people who share your passion,” Gilsig said of the program. “It was a great chance to learn everything and make mistakes among your peers.”

Given her hectic schedule as a professional, with barely one day off a week, she often looks back to her days at McGill and reflects on what life was like then.

“I can’t believe how much I did in college,” Gilsig said. “I remember being bombarded with all of these tasks, but I always still found time to get everything done, and be a fun college student.”

Still, she wouldn’t trade her life as an actress for anything. After all, this is finally what she’s been working so hard for.

After graduating in 1995, Gilsig moved to New York. She stayed there for five years, before heading west, into thespian limbo…otherwise known as pilot season. All she picked up in L.A. was “culture shock.” Nothing else – including a job. So she headed back to the Big Apple.

After a discouraging period of constantly wondering whether or not to return to Canada, Gilsig landed the voice of an animated character in the big screen feature, “Quest for Camelot.”

“That wouldn’t have ever happened now since animated movies are so popular,” she explains. “But they had to cast it that night, and I could do the British accent they needed, so they cast me as the lead in the movie.”
