Page 1 of 3 Crystal suggests we meet at Joan’s on Third, a trendy eatery great for yummy goat cheese salads, cupcakes east of Sprinkles, or an afternoon snack, and smack dab right in between all our favorite boutiques. I sit at an outdoor table, anxiously awaiting her approach. Because I’ve only communicated through email, I’m nervous I won’t know who she is, but, at the same time, because she works at Daily Candy I feel like her superhipness will easily give her away. Obviously not wanting to disappoint me, Crystal approaches me, wearing torn designer jeans, Birkenstocks, a navy sweater, oversized Chanel sunglasses, and of course, a Rebecca Minkoff in tow, the very epitome of LA style. For those of you who don’t know, Daily Candy is an everyday guide that lets us know what’s cutting edge in the worlds of fashion, music, restaurants, books, bars, lip gloss, (read: anything pop culture) in sweet, witty bites via email ready to fulfill our fashion forward cravings. And Crystal Meers, the LA editor, is graciously lending me her time to tell me how she got to be who she is, the woman behind the west coast daily dose. Because I’m a senior on the brink of the real world, hoping that one day, like Crystal I’ll get to say, “I love my job!” I ask her the question I’m dying to know, “How did you get to be LA editor of Daily Candy?” She begins by telling me the story of her undergrad experience, “I was at Tisch in this class where we had to sit in a circle and give three bits of personal info. I say, ‘uh I'm Crystal, I live in Chinatown, and my least favorite color is light blue. The dude next to me says I'm what's-his-face, and I’ve played Romeo over six hundred times at a theatre outside of Palo Alto. I was like, “Six hundred times? I could barely get through three nights as the Baroness in The Sound of Music, and at that moment I knew I didn’t want to be an actress.” “Oy, so what next?”
