"Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me"

Following in the footsteps of great girl groups of the past, The Pipettes offer swinging pop numbers in matching outfits and perky smiles. And they bring fun carefree sing-along music of a bygone era to hipsters across the US and England. Adding some modern angst and sexual energy to the mix, The Pipettes reinvigorated the ‘60’s girl group act.

Their new single, “Your Kisses Are Wasted on Me,” off of their 2006 album, We Are the Pipettes, is a perfect blend of ‘60’s Supremes styling and mid-90’s twee pop playfulness. Members Becki Pipette, Gwenno Pipette, and Rose Pipette sing/yell out the chorus with the true energy of any seasoned punk rocker, while the overall sound is a wonderful blend of jangly guitars, bee-bopping bass, and added orchestral layers of xylophone and violin.

What makes The Pipettes such a good act is that they backup their conceptual appearance and sound with really great music. Anyone can wear matching outfits and say they’re going for a sound that mixes The Angels with Toni Basil, but The Pipettes really bring it. Their music is just as good as any ‘60’s hit and proof of this fact is that “Your Kisses Are Wasted on Me” is a Top 40 hit. It’s a little taste of 1963 with an indie rock attitude and, I assure you, an absolute gas.
