What do a techie, a soccer mom, a food connoisseur and an environmentalist have in common? Calafia, the new restaurant and market in Palo Alto’s Town & Country Village. Techies will be thrilled to know that the dream team (Google’s founding executive chef Charlie Ayers and Google’s former executive sous chef Kevin Ogle) that put other cafeterias to shame with their ingenious inventions at Google’s cafeteria recently opened this health restaurant and prepared foods market.
An assortment of creative brunch, lunch and dinner options are available, thus pleasing the fickle food connoisseurs. The Eggplant & Mushroom Panini is absolutely amazing, bursting with zesty flavors between crunchy bread. The Tofu Lentil Loaf is also highly recommended, a pleasant surprise that both vegetarians and meat-eaters can enjoy.
Most of Calafia’s selections in the eatery and the prepared foods market section are affordable, a huge bonus for Soccer Moms (and Dads…and older brothers and sisters) who may not always have loads of money or time, but want to feed kids more than fatty fries and processed burgers. The prepared foods market section is filled with a colorful salad bar and other on-the-go grabs like casseroles, sushi and sandwiches. And undoubtedly, Calafia’s an environmentalist’s dream come true. A place that incorporates recycled products in everything from the ceilings to the walls and the seating. Notice the funky chandelier in the front dining area? That consists of old milk bottles from a dairy farm. That stool you’re sitting on? Made from a gardening stake.
