Fig – it’s short for Figueroa, one of the most important streets in downtown Los Angeles. It’s also the main ingredient in the Fig Newton bars and just so happens to be the name of one of the newest editions to Santa Monica’s thriving restaurant scene. Open for almost as long as Obama’s been in office, FIG Restaurant is getting down to business, actively incorporating indigenous ingredients into its dishes.
So exactly what is on a menu that has 90% of its produce locally and organically grown? Well for one thing, there’s no telling whether or not that Warm Quinoa Salad you’ve been dreaming about will be available on your next visit, since the menu changes based upon seasonal availabilities. But it does guarantee that whichever appetizer, salad or entrée you choose, it will be bursting with colorful, fresh fruits and veggies that are so good for you that your body will thank you a couple of decades down the road.
