Everybody Else

"In Memoriam"

Based out of Los Angeles, Everybody Else consists of three good lookin’, (okay, great lookin’) skinny pant wearin’ guys that are bringing music back to what it was originally meant to be: a composition of all art mediums beautifully expressed through sound and song. Getting much of his inspiration from fancy-pant literature, and a soulful throaty voice that makes any girl’s knees go weak, lead singer Carrick Moore Gerety’s epic lyrics prove that indie-poprock is more than just a passing fad. Everybody Else incorporates and pays homage to the rock n’ roll of the past while still maintaining an originality that socks you in your stomach and leaves you gasping for air.

Is there a uniting theme for your new album?

A theme in my writing is “nostalgia”; it continually moves me in song writing and in the books I read. Many of my lyrics are semi-autobiographical. I think a real image is always more convincing than a fake one. The whole concept of taking a sip of orange soda, (“In Memorandum”) and having all of these memories come flooding back as a result, is an homage to a famous Proust novel where he takes a madeleine cookie and dips it in some tea. The whole novel basically stems from that moment; he starts remembering his childhood as a result of sensation of the cookie’s taste. Proust is one of my favorite authors. But my version is more of an American modernized.

What musician, dead or alive, would you want to meet and jam with?

Andre 3000. Easy. I just worship that dude and think he’s so original—his lyrics are so interesting musically he’s just so out there. Living in LA you run into and meet so many celebrities that it gets sort of blasé. But he’s also able to make hits, which I think is a cool combination. Most of the people I idolize are just as original as they are able to make hits.
